March 2, 2000 (Merrimack, NH) -- United Way of Greater Nashua has entered cyberspace with the launch of their new website. Located at www.unitedwaynashua.org, the website has many features that will act as a resource for the community at-large. The website's Community Calendar is open to any organization that is holding an event with a community benefit. Recent listings on the Community Calendar include the Antique Appraisal Faire, benefiting Rape & Assault Support Services; Child & Family Services' Celebration for Children concert, and the "Growing Up in Nashua" series at the Hunt Memorial Building.. "Our goal is that people will come to the website to find out what's going on in our community," says United Way Board Chair Rodney S. Hansen, who is plant manager at Anheuser-Busch in Merrimack. "We also know that many organizations plan events and then find out that someone else planned an event for the same day and time. We're hoping that this calendar can help avoid some of those scheduling conflicts." Organizations wishing to submit listings for the Community Calendar can do so via email to: amy@unitedwaynashua.org or by mail to Amy Foster, United Way of Greater Nashua, 6 Henry Clay Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054. Another useful feature of the website is the Where To Get Help section. Health and Human Service agencies can be located by an alphabetical listing or by type of service. The information includes both United Way-participating and non-participating agencies and has many handy links. There is also contact information for Information & Referral, a program of Community Council that is funded in part by United Way. Also on the website is a summary of the 1999 Community Assessment, a downloadable version of United Way's Annual Report and information about volunteer opportunities. The year 2000 marks United Way's 70th anniversary of serving the communities of Amherst, Brookline, Hollis, Hudson, Litchfield, Lyndeborough, Merrimack, Milford, Mont Vernon, Nashua and Wilton. | |||

November 2, 2000 (Merrimack, NH) -- United Way of Greater Nashua has received a $100,000 challenge grant from a donor in the Nashua area who wishes to remain anonymous. The condition of the grant is that 10 other donors give $10,000 each to match the $100,000 amount. Donors who give to United Way at this level are entered into the Alexis de Tocqueville Society, which is a national recognition program. "We are so thrilled and gratified that this individual has stepped up to the plate to make a measurable difference for our community," said United Way Board Chair Rodney S. Hansen, Jr., who is a Plant Manager at Anheuser-Busch in Merrimack. "Even in these booming economic times, there are still so many in need in our community. United Way's Community Care Fund benefits people from all walks of life. If successful, this challenge grant will have a tremendous impact on our ability to meet the needs of our community." United Way's annual fund drive continues through the end of the year, however, donations toward the challenge grant must be received no later than March 31, 2001.
