Make a Memorable Summer by Volunteering

Summer is here! For many of us, that means longer days, beach trips, and cookouts. All fun things that make you feel good. And time for volunteering.

Volunteering? Yes, giving your time and talents is rewarding, fun, and easy. Whether it’s for an hour or an entire day, volunteering is a great way to make a positive difference in the Greater Nashua community.

Here are a few ways for you to have fun and create unforgettable memories this summer by volunteering:

Wear the LIVE UNITED Shirt

Fill the bus volunteers at Hudson Walmart

First Student and United Way of Greater Nashua volunteers greet Walmart customers to promote the “Fill the Bus” collection of school supplies.

Represent United Way of Greater Nashua at local events as a United Way Brand Ambassador. Wear a LIVE UNITED T-shirt, distribute information and giveaways, take photos, and encourage people to sign up for our e-newsletter. Time commitment typically is one to two hours.  Great for families, community groups, or individuals.

See example: our 2014 school supplies collection with Walmart

We’ve teamed up with Macy’s Shop for a Cause and need Brand Ambassadors to help sell shopping passes to customers at the Nashua Macy’s from 11 AM to 1 PM on August 1 and August 8. Email Lisa if interested in this or other Brand Ambassador opportunities, including road races and community festivals.

Advocate Online

Do you enjoy social media? Whether you have 10 minutes or 10 hours to volunteer, you can become a United Way Social Media Ambassador and help enhance United Way’s social media presence by engaging the community through our blog, Facebook page, LinkedIn group, Twitter, and YouTube accounts. Liking, commenting on, and sharing posts only takes a few seconds and can be powerful ways of spreading United Way’s message. Please email Lisa Conti regarding this ongoing opportunity, or contact us through one of our social media channels.

Day of Caring

Registration is now open! United Way of Greater Nashua’s 24th Annual Day of Caring is Wednesday, September 16, 2015. This year, there will be a kick-off breakfast event to start a great day of volunteering at Nashua-area non-profit organizations.

Make Connections While Making a Difference

Looking for a way to enhance your business skills, make new connections, and share your expertise? United Way of Greater Nashua is looking for entrepreneurial-minded individuals to join our Community Liaison Program. You will assist local companies with their United Way fundraising campaigns, six to eight hours per week. The position runs late August to early December and offers a small stipend. If interested, please send a resume and cover letter to Deborah Tighe.

Volunteer with a Local Nonprofit

If you have a few hours once a week, St. Joseph Community Services, Inc. is always looking for drivers to deliver Meals on Wheels to the homes of elderly and disabled adults. 20% of these clients report having no other weekly visits besides their Meals on Wheels driver. By volunteering, you’re delivering a nutritious meal, checking in for their safety, and bringing someone a smile. For more information, call Elida Cristaldi at 603-424-9967, or simply sign up here.

Volunteers are always needed at the Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter for a variety of tasks. Throughout July and August, they need help organizing the donations from their “Backpacks for Back to School” program.

The YMCA of Greater Nashua has a variety of volunteer positions available, including assistant swim instructors, basketball coaches, babysitters, and more.
