United Way of America (UWA) is the national trade association of 1,350 United Ways across the nation. It is located in Alexandria, Virginia. Each local United Way board of directors decides whether to belong to the national trade association. UWA has no authority over United Way of Greater Nashua Board of Directors' decisions. Our fees to UWA are less than 1% of the funds we raise locally. Some benefits we receive from UWA are:
  • Highly recognizable and valued trademark. Promoting United Way trademark and logo presence and visibility among the American people.
  • Organized and Unified System. Provides a voice in key audiences, including national, state and local opinion leaders and decision-makers, business leaders and the news media.
  • Research Services. Wide range of comprehensive analytical research data, services and tools that track national trends, issues of the future, comparative national and local campaign and fund distribution data, volunteering, and demographic information to help better understand our environment.
  • National Football League Partnership. This highly valued relationship positions United Ways in the minds of millions of people as a leader in addressing health and human service issues, by televising PSAs during the professional football season.
  • National presence in attracting grants. Sources for local communities targeting specific issues and initiatives such as literacy, housing and diversity.
  • Government Relations. A service that positions the United Way system as a valuable national resource to the federal government and helps us to work more efficiently with state and local governments.
  • National Academy of Voluntarism. Customer-driven training courses and services, with measurable outcomes. Uses emerging technology integrated into training program delivery.
  • Ongoing Communications. A national network that allows United Ways to share best practices and other information.
  • Relationship Facilitator. Support to national companies that want to cultivate a year-round relationship with United Ways.
  • National Advertising and Communication. Promote the image and message of United Ways nationwide, via the Presidential message, annual campaign films, public service announcements, national media relations, media training and consultation.
