Looking for a way to help less fortunate neighbors in Greater Nashua during this holiday season? Through the #GivingTuesday movement, you can make an impact by choosing how you want to give back and using the power of social media to share your good work.
United Way of Greater Nashua has joined #GivingTuesday, a first-of-its-kind effort designed to inspire people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they support, and help create a better world.
Taking place December 2, 2014 – the Tuesday after Thanksgiving – #GivingTuesday will harness the power of social media to create a national moment around the holidays dedicated to giving, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become days that are synonymous with holiday shopping.
“Whether it’s time, money, a product, or service, we all have something to give,” said United Way of Greater Nashua Vice Chairperson Susan McHugh of UPS. “And each individual who gives can inspire others.”
United Way’s #GivingTuesday web page offers giving options and tips on how to spread the word about #GivingTuesday via social media. Visitors may:
- Give to United Way of Greater Nashua’s Community Impact Fund, which supports effective, local programs tied to a strong safety net, transitional housing, and community health
- Pledge to volunteer during 2015 and search for volunteer opportunities
- Download information about how to support The Telegraph Santa Fund by donating different types of gifts for Greater Nashua families in need.
Several high schools in Greater Nashua will collect gifts for area teenagers whose families sign up for the Santa Fund. Volunteer UPS drivers will pick up collection boxes at the schools. Other high schools that already have planned holiday fundraisers to benefit the community will tie into #GivingTuesday by sharing their efforts with United Way and by promoting them on social media.
Greater Nashua community groups, businesses, and individuals are invited to participate in #GivingTuesday in whatever manner best suits them. Visit United Way’s #GivingTuesday web page or call 603-882-4011 for more information. And be sure to let us know how you’re giving back this holiday season.
